High Desert Goldens Puppy Process

We’ve streamlined our process to make bringing home your naturally reared Golden Retriever puppy simple and straightforward. Here’s how it works:

1. Fill Out the Puppy Interest Form

If you're interested in potentially getting a puppy from us in the future, submit the Interest Form to receive litter announcements and updates.

2. Litter Confirmation & Application

When we have a confirmed litter, we’ll notify everyone on the Interest List via email.
If you’re ready to move forward, fill out the Puppy Application.
Be sure to read our FAQ's and Contract before submitting an application to make sure we are the right breeder for you!

3. Application Approval & Deposit Submission

Once your application is approved, you will have 48 hours to submit your non-refundable deposit to secure your spot.

4. Puppy Birth & Gender Reservation

When puppies are born, we will confirm your preferred gender.
If your preferred gender is not available, you may:
1. Choose the opposite gender
2. Transfer your deposit to the top of the list for the next litter
3. Request a refund of your deposit

5. Week 7: Temperament Testing & Puppy Selection

At 7 weeks old, all puppies undergo independent third-party temperament testing.
Once results are in, we will match each family with puppies that fit their needs.
-If only one puppy matches your criteria, that puppy will be selected for you.
- If multiple puppies match, you will choose from the available options.

6. Week 8: Puppies Go Home!

Puppies go home at 8 weeks old during a 3-5 day pickup period.

Interest Form vs. Application – Which One is Right for You?

If you're simply interested in keeping up to date with our breeding program and may want to bring home a naturally reared High Desert Goldens puppy in the future, then filling out the Interest Form is the best option for you. This allows you to receive litter announcements, updates, and availability notifications without any commitment.

However, if you already know that our naturally reared Golden Retrievers are exactly what you're looking for and the timing is right, then skip the interest form and go straight to the application process! Submitting your application and deposit secures your place on our list and gives you the best chance of bringing home a puppy from our next available litter.

Is my deposit refundable?
NON-REFUNDABLE DEPOSIT POLICY
Your deposit is non-refundable unless I am unable to provide you with a puppy. Circumstances where a refund may be issued include:
The number of puppies in the litter is fewer than the number of deposits received.
I am unable to provide the preferred gender you selected on your application.
A puppy passes away while in my care.
If any of these situations occur, you will have the following options:
1. Move your deposit to the top of the waitlist for the next litter.
2. Select an alternate gender if one is available.
3. Request a refund for your deposit.

How does the puppy selection process work?

Once the puppies are born, we will match gender preferences with the available puppies and confirm that your preferred gender is secured.

At 7 weeks old, all puppies will undergo Volhard Temperament Testing, conducted by an independent third party. This evaluation helps us determine each puppy's personality, energy level, and suitability for different homes.

After the temperament test results are complete, I will contact you with the best match options for your family. At that time, you will officially select your puppy based on both temperament and the order in which deposits were received.

In some cases, only one puppy may be available that meets your specific needs, such as for service work or therapy. If this happens, the best-matched puppy will be selected for you to ensure the best outcome for both you and the puppy.

This process ensures that every family gets the best puppy for their needs, setting both the puppy and their new family up for long-term success!

How many deposits do you accept?

We accept 8 deposits at a time, covering up to two planned litters. Once all deposit spots are filled, families can still join our interest list to receive updates on future litters and upcoming availability.

Because litter sizes and genders cannot be predicted in advance, some families may need to wait for the next litter to receive their preferred gender. The sooner you submit your application and deposit, the higher your place on the list—giving you the best chance of securing a puppy from the upcoming litter. If a puppy of your preferred gender is not available, you will have the option to move to the top of the list for the next planned litter.

If you select "no preference" for gender on your application, your chances of getting a puppy sooner increase even more, as you will have priority when matching available puppies. Flexibility with gender can significantly reduce your wait time!

How long is the wait time to get a puppy?

Wait times can vary significantly based on many factors, including litter timing, availability, and your place on our reservation list. Our program has grown extremely popular, and demand for our naturally reared Golden Retrievers continues to increase.

In general, we plan for 1-2 litters per year. Depending on your preference for gender and other factors, the wait time for a puppy can range from 6 to 18 months.

The earlier you submit your application and deposit, the higher your place on the list, giving you the best chance of securing a puppy from the next available litter. Families who select "no gender preference" often receive a puppy sooner since they have more flexibility in the selection process.
